Cycling in Metz

Cyclists can use cycling lanes and are welcome in all pedestrian zones and parks (with the exception of the botanical garden).

Authorisation to cycle in pedestrian areas is specified by the pedestrian zone signpost. These zones are forbidden to all types of motorised vehicles (except in special cases) and are reserved for use by pedestrians and cyclists only.

When you leave a pedestrian area, you will immediately find yourself back in the normal road system, so please take necessary precautions when rejoining traffic.

Pedestrian zones are areas where pedestrians have priority over all other users. Cyclists may ride their bikes “on the understanding they will ride at walking pace and not cause any obstruction to pedestrians:” (article 431-9 of the French Highway Code).
