Metz is also a love story between city and water, in particular the smooth-flowing Moselle River. At the foot of the Cathedral, its heritage gazes upon itself reflected in the water.
To begin is the Place de la Comédie built on a small island in the middle of the river. Here sits the oldest opera-theatre still in activity in France (1752), as well as the dominant façade of Temple Neuf (1904), whose reflexion in the Moselle River, as seen from the Moyen-Pont bridge, is one of the most stunning views in the whole of Metz.

Continue your leisurely walk as far as the lake and the Marina, a lake nestled in the very heart of the city and departure point of many tours (the botanical garden for example).
Just above, catch a view of the Esplanade, dominated by the ancient citadel complex, where the old abbey of Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains (dating from around the year 400, it is one of the oldest churches in France), the small Templiers Chapel or the prestigious Arsenal building sit in silence and in all their glory.
Metz, a long-lasting love story with the water
