Stop-overs and city breaks

Wander around medieval Metz

A large part of the city centre has maintained the informal and welcoming atmosphere of the medieval era.

As they climb the Sainte-Croix hill, surrounding the Museums, visitors are transported into the heart of a network of old-fashioned streets typical of the Republic that was Metz of old.

  • Crenellated frontage of the Chèvremont Granary
  • Saint-Livier Hotel (today housing the Regional Contemporary Arts Fund)
  • Sainte-Ségolène church and its charming square
  • The calming effects of the Récollets cloister (now the European Institute of Ecology)
  • Rabelais’ old home, etc.

Saint-Louis SquarePorte des Allemands

The extensive square, Place Saint-Louis with its arched facades, is the ideal place to start a tour of the Outre-Seille quarter. Saint Maximin's church with its bluish glass windows by Jean Cocteau, the quiet church of Saint-Eucaire or the powerful Porte des Allemands fortress opening out onto the Ramparts walkway, Outre-Seille will not disappoint visitors looking for authenticity.

Medieval Metz,

and welcoming atmosphere
